sea of Muppets aka Kermit (flickr 3345651816)This poem about Muppets was resurrected from my past (originally written on January 26, 1995).

It’s interesting to see what my mind was like back then, before adulthood crept in and made me so serious (yes, I can be serious sometimes).

I dusted off the poem and gave it some revisions, but tried to maintain the oddness of the original.

Delusions of Muppets

I found red muppets bathing clean my mind.
My cerebellum cleared of noxious thoughts inert.
Red furry hands discovered bits of rind.

That day my supervisor fired my lazy behind
Because I said his wife ate too much dessert.
I found red muppets bathing clean my mind.

The cabby shouted as I ran away, to find
The quarter tip I lost inside my shirt.
Red furry hands discovered bits of rind.

Elizabeth, my lovely wife, told me to wind
The cat—or maybe the clock—but not to hurt.
I found red muppets bathing clean my mind.

Grey matter spilled from deep inside. A kind
Green frog flushed trauma away with yellow squirt.
Red furry hands discovered bits of rind.

A dark calm peace began to fall. It whined,
Then swept my mind so free of dirt
I found red muppets bathing clean my mind.
Red furry hands discovered bits of rind.
